Got around to doing some more work on the bike. This time it was the forks that went under the knife.

After about 20min of pure comedy I finally got the bike raised enough so that the forks can slip out of the triple trees without taking the wheel off first. In retrospective I should have taken the wheel off first. It was a well balanced act to achieve the task. (Watch the video and you will see what I mean.)

It wasn't long before i hit my next problem. Undoing the bolts that hold the brake calipers to the fork. These were set pretty tight in place. I resulted to using a hammer like a clown at first, but then realized that simple leverage will simply do.

Once the right fork was into pieces for w.e. reason I decided that I needed to separate the fork tube and slider....an hour later it hit me that this was not necessary on the right fork as I had already removed the parts that needed modification. This step will be required once i disassemble the forks again for thorough cleaning, new fork seals, and a fresh powder coat.

SIDE NOTE: snap rings are a bitch to remove

Here is what the modified right fork looks like next to the left one. Roughly a 2" difference

It was getting cold out so I decided to call it a day and deal with the left fork inside. Since it had a slightly more complicated mechanism in it, it required full disassembly in order to shorten it. There goes another hour trying to remove the damn snap ring at the top.

The next day I quickly disassembled the right fork again and measured up the spring and spacer sizes for the left fork.

It didn't take long to re-assemble things back together and put them on the bike

Proud of my achievements I decided that I can sneak in one more item in the to do for this weekend. Cut the tail off

Now that the bike has taking the general shape i need it to be in, its time i start looking at relocating some of the electronics. Stay tuned for more articles and videos.
